About me:
Khadija Bangoura (any) is a Black & Queer theatre artist, comedian, and playwright from Burlington, VT. At a young age, Khadija realized that theatre was a place where they could transform and experience true, uninhibited joy. They started their theatrical journey as an African Dancer, participating in her parent’s performance company, “Jeh Kulu Dance & Drum Theatre”. This fostered their love of community and storytelling. As Khadija grew older, they began to see how oppressive systems permeate the theatre industry. They want their art to make her community feel welcome, artistically challenged, and engaged.
Khadija works toward freedom, with Play in their their pocket and Joy in their left, they hope to carve out a space in the storytelling world for a new type of theatre, one for the true dreamers, one for people who strive to play and laugh and lift the weight of this heavy world off their shoulders.
Khadija has written several plays, acted in musicals, performs in BU’s College of Fine Arts Improv Troupe “Spontaneous Combustion”, directs and choreographs, and is now dabbling as a podcaster. She is constantly searching for that new exciting way to create with abandon.
Khadija is inspired by queer artists of color who have paved the way for intersectionality in storytelling. She hopes to someday create an artistic space dedicated to new work, classes, and organization for her community.
